Ael’yeth Naialine - A talented druid and close ally of Tassarion Elaric. Played a key role in freeing Tassarion from the Arcane Gladiatorial arena, and conscripted the Ents to attack Arin’silath. Considered by many to be the brains of the Arcanist Revolution.
Aida Jestele - A double agent in the War of the Dwarves and the Giants. Lured king Umr Hjoldain into an ambush at the rear gates of the dwarven stronghold of Kragthorn Hold.
Allethane - The human king of Krenth, notable for wedding the dwarven king Valdrag Stonesunder at the end of the War of the Dwarves and Giants.
Amthir - An elven mage and necromancer who raised an army of undead from the casualties of the Battle of Kragthorn Hold.
Azak - Dwarven king during the Magical Inquisition period. Attributed to starting the inquisition by banning magic following a deadly explosion in the Mines of Dulway’n.
Bainphaerün - A descendant of Tifereon, author of the Inaer. Wrests control of the Black Reach from Ysara Neldrin during The Quiet.
Baldrun Goldsheeth - Dwarven commander of Kragthorn Hold during the War of the Dwarves and the Giants. Allied with the Silver Reach Empire and led an army composed of dwarven, warforged and Silver Reach troops to a decisive victory over the giants and their elven allies at the Battle of Kragthorn Hold.
Calith Vorane - A human king who wed the lich queen Ysara Neldrin shortly before the Toric War.
Eldan’shir - An elven general who led a group of skilled mages and warriors in an assault on Chak’tal Spire. Assassinated Vrik’shara and gained control of the Luminara. Later formed the Shattered Sigil in partnership with archfey Talarion.
Florin Stonepick - An emissary who signed the trade deal with the underwater city Blaroca during The Fall of the Old Kingdoms, officially opening trade between all nations and peoples of Arcis.
Gorak Hjoldain - Giant prince and son of king Umr Hjoldain. Slain in his father’s command tent near Kragthorn Hold in a failed assassination attempt that was meant for Umr.
Halcyon - The first warforged Runegazer. Unified the warforged to rise up against their dwarven masters, precipitating warforged autonomy on Arcis.
Halpeccia Goldraven - An elven explorer attributed with the first discovery of aquatic mortals. Later acted as a general in the Elven Armies at the final battle of the War of the Dwarves and the Giants.
Jaraka - A dwarven queen, and the daughter of Azak, and a loyal worshiper of Dharthane. Responsible for calling an official end to the Magical Inquisition.
Jelana - A child of divine heritage, a Runegazer, and a prominent figure during the War for the Skies. Was the sole survivor of the massacre at the Sunev Monastery, and later went on to broker a lasting peace with the draconic forces.
Karos - A giant smith who reforged the legendary artifact known as the Hammer of Harak.
Lonaik - The “thrice great king” who brokered an alliance between gnomes and unicorns during the full-scale toric war.
Lorainne the Song - An elven mage in the Elven Armies during the War of the Dwarves and the Giants. Strategist and advisor who failed to convince king Umr Hjoldain to sue for peace.
Mabaluius - A member of the Orphic Veil who surfaces during the Toric War and exposes the existence of the Black Reach.
Nelearyn Ethalys - Once crown heir of The Ish’talathin, an elven kingdom which dissolved when he left to the city of Kinthal to be with his dwarven lover.
Neferhotep - An elven pharaoh whose hubris led him to create the bronze dracolich Niefarion during the War for the Skies. He promptly lost control of her.
Niefarion - A bronze dracolich created by Neferhotep and his magi during the War for the Skies. Attempts to control and weaponize her failed, and she escaped. Later defeated by the dwarven warrior Thela Cragsfury in an instance of divine intervention.
Obsidian - A warforged religious leader who founded the Cult of Xasthoon, a religious order worshiping the god of avarice. Recovered an ancient artifact named the Awl of Ire from the Vault of Qyrix, which gave power to him and his disciples.
Raia - An elven poet and Runegazer who wrote the epic GRIMKHA, the first account of the history of the giants.
Randver Fornhold - A dwarven smith from Kragthorn Hold who was granted a vision from Forgefather Ferrux, god of the forge, for the design of the first warforged. He eventually went insane with the knowledge, but not before bringing about a new species of humanoid constructs.
Riven Falkrik, Emperor - Half-human, half-dwarf emperor of the Silver Reach Empire predating its collapse. Entered into a secretive deal with a powerful fey entity and broke his arrangement, resulting in his deposition. He later attempted to become Emperor Eternal by ascending to godhood, and failed.
Runa Astryn - Half-Elf. Devout follower of Baeyumatal and founder of Aethelm, the first cross-cultural metropolis.
Sairin’ Tirah - A shadow fey. A portal to his realm was discovered and reactivated during The End of the Old Kingdoms.
Senusret - An elven pharaoh. Last of her dynasty, which collapsed when she attempted to proclaim Neferu, god of the river Neferu, as the sole deity in the land of Harsth.
Talarion - Archfey and leader of Aeloria during The Quiet. Establishes a fey foothold on Arcis through defunct Silver Reach portals. Later joins with general Eldan’shir to establish the Shattered Sigil during the Toric War.
Tassarion Elaric - A gifted human sorcerer who led a cultural revolution to free the arcanists during the Magical Inquisition. Described as charismatic, handsome and talented--but quite dim.
Thela Cragsfury - A dwarven warrior who single-handedly bested the bronze dracolich Niefarion in a moment of divine intervention from Vigsall, the god of brutality.
Tifereon - Runegazer and prophet. Author of the Inaer, a tome predicting the Toric War.
Umr Hjoldain, King - A king of giants who brought a terrible curse upon his people during the War for the Skies when he attempted to expunge religion from his kingdom. Later led his army to a resounding defeat at Kragthorn Hold, during the last battle of the War of the Dwarves and the Giants.
Valdrag Stonesunder - A dwarven king who famously married the human king Allethane of Krenth.
Varek Bristorn - Human royalty and Runegazer whose airship was destroyed by dragons at the beginning of the War for the Skies.
Vrik’shara - A thri-kreen Runegazer and eventual leader of the Silver Reach Empire. Left his home, Thrax’lan, after runegazing a greater destiny for himself. Led the expedition to find the Vault of Qyrix and uncovered the Luminara. Later assassinated by the elven general Eldan’shir at Chak’tal Spire.
Ysara Neldrin (Queen, Empress, Lich Queen) - A human Runegazer and a visionary who played a central role in the history of Arcis. Ascended as the first mage queen during the “Civilizations Established” period. Empress of the Silver Reach Empire. Founder of The Orphic Veil and The Black Reach. Unlocked the secrets of undeath and proceeded to play a crucial role as a lich queen in several of the organizations and events leading up to the Toric War.
Continents
Callum-Thea - A desert continent on Arcis, and the ancestral homeland of the thri-kreen. Home to the floating city of Krznlik and the Vault of Qyrix. The Silver Reach attempted an invasion of Callum-Thea and failed due to its roving hordes of rust monsters.
Startheim - A continent containing icy mountains that were home to a slumbering aberration. Site of the mining expedition incited by the trickster god Suka. Also the location of the Frigid Fjordlands, which becomes a destination for a band of dwarven and giant mercenaries.
Provinces
Harsth - A homeland of elven Pharaohs and the river Neferu.
Krenth - A human kingdom during the War of the Dwarves and Giants.
Maramac - Presumably a location, home to the Republic of Maramac.
Cities
Aelin’faer - The elven capital city during the End of the Old Kingdoms. The city collapsed into a sinkhole created by the Deep Roads, and became a meaningful site of cross-species rebuilding and collaboration. The city was eventually reconstructed underground after over 150 years, its new layout surrounding the Spire of Aelin’faer.
Aeloria - A capital city in the fey realm. Described as having iridescent groves, gossamer spires and delicate bridges.
Aethelm - The first cross-cultural metropolis on Arcis, founded at the beginning of the Age of Empires. Established by Runa Astryn, who was motivated by visions from her god Baeyumatal.
Arin’silath - A prominent city during the Magical Inquisition. Erected an Arcane Gladiatorial Arena and forced magic users to fight as public spectacle.
Blaroca - An aquatic city. Last link to creating an Arcis-wide network of trade between all nations and peoples during The Fall of the Old Kingdoms.
Dulway’n - A dwarven city. A deadly explosion occurred in the mines of Dulway’n, prompting the dwarven king Azak to ban magic.
Eöla - The capital city of the Republic of Maramac. Placed under a curse of magical slumber by archfey Talarion during The Quiet. Framed The Black Reach for the act.
Kinthal - A city notable as being the location where Nelearyn Ethalys, crown heir of The Ish’talathin, left to be with his dwarven lover. This event precipitated the splintering of The Ish’talathin into different factions. Later the site of a psychic plague unwittingly unleashed by cultists of Dharthane.
Kragthorn Hold - A dwarven citadel that served as the final theater of the War of the Dwarves and the Giants. Housed a great forge, where the first Warforged were designed and constructed.
Krznlik - A floating city on the continent of Callum-Thea. Functions as a center of trade for the continent due to its airship docks.
Rymnelle - A city featured during the Fairy War. Came under attack by oshira after a sacred grove was threatened.
Thrax’lan - A thri-kreen city on the continent of Callum-Thea. Home to Vrik’shara, who would later ascend to rule the Silver Reach Empire.
Notable Locations
Arcane Gladiatorial Arena - A dark colosseum in Arin’silath, constructed to pit magic users against beasts and each other during the Magical Inquisition.
Chak’tal Spire - A thri-kreen structure in Callum-Thea, inhabited by Vrik’shara after the fall of the Silver Reach Empire. Invaded by elven general Eldan’shir, who assassinated Vrik’shara and seized control of The Luminara.
The Deep Roads - A vast network of dwarven-made tunnels spanning Arcis. Originally employed as a means of trade and travel for the dwarves, and eventually seized by the warforged.
Duergar Ruins - Ancient duergar ruins uncovered by The Orphic Veil on the moon of Belmea. Ysara Neldrin’s exploration of these ruins revealed a prophecy of the Toric War, which she dedicated her life (and undeath) to prevent.
The Great Spire - An ancient monolithic spire, inverted, deep underground.
Ironspire - Site of the Dragonsmoot where Jelana negotiated a peace with the draconic forces and solidified their sovereignty over the skies. Later the site of an air battle between dracoliches and skyforged in the Toric War.
Mines of Dulway’n - A system of mines in the dwarven city of Dulway’n. The site of a tragic magic-based explosion. This caused the dwarven king Azak to issue a decree banning magic, which initiated the Magical Inquisition.
Temple of Kalthiirus - An ancient temple dedicated to lunar rites with the potential to awaken the eldritch entity Inaerth’Torath. The rites were invoked during the Toric War by the Black Reach, unleashing Inaerth’Torath upon Arcis.
Spire of Aelin’faer - A spire in the elven capital of Aelin’faer that remained intact after the city collapsed into a sinkhole caused by the Deep Roads. Became the centerpoint of the new Aelin’faer after it was rebuilt underground.
Sunev Monastery - The site of a massacre during the War for the Skies, of which Jelana (runegazer, divine heritage) was the sole survivor.
Than Kuldir, The Peaks of - The legendary site of the battle between Runa Cragsfury and the dracolich Niefarion.
Vault of Qyrix - A site used by the Runegazer Raia to seal away powerful artifacts during the Age of Empires. Later rediscovered and opened by Vrik’shara during The Relics of Progress. It is implied to have an ancient history, and its secrets have yet to be completely uncovered.
Organizations
Arcis Adventurer’s Guild - A trans-national coalition of adventurers founded at the end of the Age of Empires.
The Black Reach - A secretive organization created by Ysara Neldrin as payment to Katharsidan, god of death, for gifting her with the secrets of undeath. Later taken over by Bainphaerün during The Quiet. During the Toric War, responsible for opening the Temple of Kalthiirus and unleashing Inaerth’Torath upon Arcis.
The Cult of Xasthoon - A religious cult to Xasthoon, the god of avarice, led by a warforged named Obsidian during the Relics of Progress. Utilized the Awl of Ire as a source of power.
The Elven Armies - An undefined force of elves which allied with giants against the dwarves and the Silver Reach Empire during the War of the Dwarves and the Giants.
The Ish’talathin - An organization which splintered during the Age of Empires when its crown heir, Nelearyn Ethalys, left to be with his dwarven lover.
The Obsidian Alliance - A network of political and military alliances during the Toric War. Collapsed the Deep Roads in a coordinated strike.
The Orphic Veil - A clandestine organization formed by Ysara Neldrin on the moon Belmea soon after the beginning of the Magical Inquisition.
The Republic of Maramac - A nation during the time of The Quiet. Capital city was Eöla. Placed under a curse of magical slumber by the archfey Talarion, who framed The Black Reach for the act.
The Shattered Sigil - An alliance of nations during the Toric War, led by general Eldan’shir and archfey Talarion. Formed in opposition to the Obsidian Alliance and the Black Reach.
The Silver Reach Empire - A cross-cultural empire founded by Ysara Neldrin. Ruled as a magocracy where leadership could change hands through magical contests.
Vespera - The underwater kingdom of the vespers, an aquatic evolution of the warforged. Established after the fall of the Silver Reach Empire.
Artifacts and Lore
The Awl of Ire - An artifact that was recovered by the warforged cult leader Obsidian from a secret chamber in the Vault of Qyrix. Used by Obsidian as a source of power for the Cult of Xasthoon.
GRIMKHA - An epic poem chronicling the history of giants before their awakening. Penned by the elven Runegazer and poet Raia during the Age of Empires.
The Hammer of Harak - A powerful artifact that was reforged by the giant smith Karos.
The Inaer - A prophetic tome written by Tifereon during the Civilizations Established period. Warns of a cataclysmic event that will happen in the future--largely assumed to refer to the Toric War.
The Luminara - An artifact that enabled magical travel to and from the moon Solstea. Originally sealed in the Vault of Qyrix by Raia during the Age of Empires, and later uncovered by the thri-kreen Vrik’shara during the Relics of Progress. Eventually passed into the hands of Eldan’shir after he assassinated Vrik’shara at Chak’tal Spire.
Divine Beings
Baeyumatal - Goddess and patron of the seas. Gifted visions to Runa Astryn that motivated her to found Aethelm, the first cross-cultural metropolis. Took favor on the warforged and blessed them, ultimately leading to their autonomy.
Dharthane - God of knowledge and engineering. Favored by Dwarven Queen Jaraka. During The End of the Old Kingdoms, Dharthanian cultists unwittingly unleashed a psychic plague on Kinthal due to a failed ritual.
Forgefather Ferrux - God of the forge. Granted Randver Fornhold, a dwarven smith from Kragthorn Hold, the divine insight to create the Warforged
Ilithel - Goddess of motherhood and compassion. Granted humans healing magic.
Inaerth’Torath - A “great elder moon presence” awakened during the Toric War after the rites of lunar conjunction were performed at the Temple of Kalthiirus.
Katharsidan - God of death. Granted Ysara Neldrin the secrets of undeath in exchange for the creation of the Black Reach.
Neferu - God of the river Neferu, in Harsth.
Serelune - Goddess of peace. Described as an avatar of tranquility; when she manifested on Arcis she appeared as a beautiful woman wearing a simple gown that looks like stars reflecting on water. A key figure at the end of both the Magical Inquisition and the Toric War.
Solstea - One of the two moons of Arcis, granted divine consciousness through Thri-Kreen worship.
Suka - God of trickery. Manifested on Arcis to lead an expedition that uncovered a slumbering ancient aberration in the icy mountains of Startheim.
Vigsall - God of brutality. Intervened to grant Thela Cragsfury the strength of 100 men, resulting in the defeat of the dracolich Niefarion.
Xasthoon - God of avarice. Worshiped by a cult led by the warforged Obsidian. Possible connection to a magical relic named the Awl of Ire.
Xeosath - God of eldritch knowledge. Issued a directive to Bainphaerün and the Black Reach to search for the Temple of Kalthiirus. Zorius - God of justice. Agents of this god assassinated the king Calith Vorane after his blasphemous betrothal to the lich queen Ysara Neldrin.
